Every year, the counter is reset. To award this title, several major international competitions such as the International Wine Challenge , the Decanter World Wine Awards , the Wines Spectator or the Robert Parker tackle this difficult task. The wine by color section is observed from all angles, then smelled and finally tasted in order to reveal all its aromas. Only one wine per color is retained, then comes the second tasting, or the best wine of all colors combined is chosen.
