Discovering syrah, a grape variety of character
Syrah, the balance between power and elegance
Among the grape varieties that shape the identity of the great wines of the south of France, Syrah holds a place of honour. Known for its aromatic depth and beautiful structure, it is an essential part of Mediterranean terroirs.
Originally from the Rhône Valley, it thrives particularly well in the Languedoc and on the stony soils of sun-drenched hillsides. Resistant to wind and summer heat, it produces powerful, elegant wines of great complexity.
Intense and spicy aromas
Syrah is an expressive grape variety. It is distinguished by its notes of dark fruit — blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry — often accompanied by a hint of pepper, liquorice and sometimes violet. With age, it develops more complex nuances, evoking leather, cocoa or smoky notes. Although it can be vinified on its own, it is also frequently blended with other Mediterranean grape varieties, notably Grenache and Mourvèdre, which contribute roundness and structure respectively.
Château l'Hospitalet Grand Vin rouge 2017: the elegance of the South
With its blend of Syrah, Grenache Noir and Mourvèdre, Château l'Hospitalet Grand Vin rouge embodies the elegance of the great Mediterranean wines. Deep and structured, it reveals an aromatic palette combining dark fruits, soft spices and a subtly woody touch.
