Wine description
Disposable chemical breathalyser NF 0.5G without balloon
What is it for?
The breathalyser is not intended to measure the precise level of alcohol in the air, and therefore in the blood. Its purpose is to carry out screening by law enforcement or oneself to determine whether the person is fit to drive or not.
In the event that the test is positive, law enforcement will use a breathalyser device to measure the precise blood alcohol level.
Not to be confused with the breathalyser device (éthylomètre)
The breathalyser device (éthylomètre) is the only legal instrument for measuring the precise blood alcohol level in exhaled air for the purpose of legal action. Used by law enforcement, it must be reliable, accurate, comply with the AFNOR NF X 20 701 standard and be checked once a year for the test to be valid.
Its features
- For experienced drivers
- Detection threshold: 0.25mg/l of exhaled air and 0.5g/l of blood
- Breathalyser with single-use mouthpiece
- Packaged in an individual transparent sachet with instructions included.
- Single-use breathalyser without balloon.
- Used in the context of road safety and the fight against drink-driving
- Expiry date: approximately 18 months.
- Simple and quick check of blood alcohol level.
The 2 types of breathalyser
There are 2 types of breathalyser. The chemical breathalyser is associated with the balloon, and can only be used once.
The electronic breathalyser can be of 2 classes.
- Class 1: very reliable, accurate and expensive.
- Class 2: more common and just as reliable as a chemical breathalyser.
Is the breathalyser mandatory in the vehicle?
This device is considered mandatory in all motor land vehicles by a decree published in the Official Journal on Thursday 1 March 2012. However, non-possession is not penalised according to another decree published in the Official Journal on Friday 1 March 2013. It is nevertheless advisable to have at least 1 in the vehicle.
Self-testing and EAD systems
Road safety authorities consider that the chemical breathalyser or electronic one is an excellent means of self-testing to determine whether one can take the wheel or not.
Furthermore, establishments open at night and authorised to serve alcohol between 2 a.m. And 7 a.m. Are now required to make NF-certified breathalysers available. Since 1 July 2015, the blood alcohol limit is 0.2g/L of blood for young drivers in their probationary period and less than 0.5g/L of blood for experienced drivers.

Please note that...
Before using a breathalyser disposable, it is important to know that consuming 1 extra alcoholic drink causes a rise in blood alcohol of approximately 0.25 g/L. Nevertheless, the absorption of alcohol molecules by the body can be slow or fast depending on physical parameters. The rise in blood alcohol level continues for up to approximately 60 minutes after consuming the last drink.
Most of the time, the effects of alcohol molecules have not truly dissipated despite common misconceptions: having a breathalyser will help avoid the irreparable.
Why this regulation?
The regulation for the accepted alcohol level has been deliberately adjusted for young drivers following the measure of 1 July 2015: they are the leading cause of death and disability among 18–25 year-olds, and in ¼ of collisions the alcohol level is excessive.
Storage
Keep away from sunlight and at a constant temperature
