Exceptional vintages: a retrospective of the finest years

Let us review the exceptional vintages that have marked the history of this prestigious estate, highlighting the climatic conditions and the unique characteristics of each year.
2003 vintage: the heatwave and the intensity
The year 2003 is often recalled for the historic heatwave that struck Europe. The extremely high temperatures of that summer accelerated the ripening of the grapes, producing rich and concentrated wines. Despite these extreme conditions, the harvest of grapes with a high sugar and aroma content made it possible to produce wines distinguished by their power, their aromas of ripe fruit and their robust tannic structure, particularly the reds, which display exceptional depth.
2009 vintage: balance
2009 is considered a dream vintage, with almost perfect climatic conditions. A cold winter followed by a mild and wet spring allowed for a homogeneous flowering. The warm summer, without excessive heat, favoured a slow and complete ripening of the grapes. The wines of 2009 are renowned for their impeccable balance, their aromatic richness and their harmonious structure. The reds display fine tannins and a beautiful depth, while the whites offer exceptional freshness and aromatic complexity.
2011 vintage: freshness and elegance
The year 2011 was marked by an alternation of moderate temperatures and well-distributed rainfall. These conditions allowed for a slow and steady ripening of the grapes. The wines of 2011 are characterised by their elegance, their freshness and a great aromatic finesse. The reds offer supple tannins and aromas of fresh red fruits, while the whites are delicate with floral and mineral notes.
2013 vintage: a year of challenges and complexity
2013 posed many climatic challenges with a cool and rainy spring that delayed flowering. However, the hot and dry summer made it possible to make up for this delay, favouring a good concentration of aromas in the grapes. The late harvest yielded wines with remarkable freshness and a unique aromatic complexity. The reds of 2013 are lively with aromas of black fruits and spicy notes, while the whites display a fine acidity and aromas of citrus and white flowers.
2018 vintage: the year of biodynamics
2018 marked an exceptional year for Gérard Bertrand, underscoring his commitment to biodynamic viticulture. A wet winter followed by a mild spring and a warm summer, well balanced by sufficient rainfall, made it possible to produce grapes of outstanding quality. The wines of 2018 are distinguished by their vibrancy, their aromatic depth and exceptional complexity. The reds are powerful and structured, with aromas of ripe fruit and silky tannins, while the whites are fresh, floral and mineral.
2020 vintage: innovation and reward
The 2020 vintage is a memorable year for Gérard Bertrand, marked by the resounding success of Clos du Temple. This exceptional rosé wine embodies the art of biodynamic viticulture and our unique expertise. Clos du Temple 2020, with its worldwide recognition, is a shining testament to this relentless pursuit of perfection.
