Corbières wine, the leading appellation of Languedoc-Roussillon

AOC Corbières wine: the champion of Languedoc-Roussillon

Corbières

The leading appellation of Languedoc-Roussillon in terms of volume, the Corbières vineyard is a must among wines from the south of France. Located in the heart of the Pays Cathare, in the southern part of the Aude department, the Corbières mid-mountain massif has always produced wines with character.

Its atypical terroir allows it to create unique wines. Its soil combines schist and limestone terrain, while its climate, though Mediterranean, is particularly harsh. In this context, only the most resilient grape varieties can flourish under the Cathar climate. Part of the Héritage wine range, this bottle of Corbières red wine is named "An 806" in honour of the Château de Peyrepertuse, one of the most iconic monuments of the Pays Cathare.

Gérard Bertrand wanted, just like the other wine bottles in the range (notably An 990 Fitou or An 873 Minervois), this cuvée An 806 Corbières to be designed to reflect its terroir, its history and its origins. This Languedoc-Roussillon red wine showcases all the character of Corbières red wines.

Production and tasting of the Corbières wine by Gérard Bertrand

This Gérard Bertrand red wine is produced from three grape varieties typical of Mediterranean vineyards: Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. The grapes for the An 806 Corbières cuvée are first harvested entirely by hand, then the bunches are fully destemmed. After the malolactic fermentation phase, the three grape varieties are blended and undergo a period of barrel ageing (a barrel specially designed for wine ageing) for a duration of 8 months.

Once bottled, the wine is kept for many months before being offered for sale.

This Corbières red wine is dense and elegant, reflecting its terroir and revealing all its characteristics. The tasting is forthright; its nose offers beautiful notes of wild herbs. On the palate, it is softness and unctuousness that prevail, with subtle flavours of spices, cinnamon and liquorice.

What to pair with Corbières red wine?

Corbières Red Wine Pairings

Good food and wine pairings allow the wine to express its full potential. With a good bottle of Corbières red wine, served at a temperature of 18°C, we recommend red grilled meats, slow-cooked dishes, world cuisine dishes such as tagines, or mature cheeses.
