Languedoc rosé wine, a typical wine from the south of France

Rosé wine: decoding the summer drink

Rosé wine, a typical wine from the south of France

Fruity, light, tangy or floral, rosé wine is a wine with multiple flavours that is increasingly appreciated in France, particularly during the summer season.

Easy to drink and particularly refreshing, it is therefore no surprise to see it so often served on terraces, on the beach, by a swimming pool or at a barbecue with friends.

How should rosé wine be served?

At what temperature should rosé be served?

The summer drink par excellence, rosés are among the wines best served chilled!

Indeed, its serving temperature ranges between 8 and 14 degrees depending on the rosé wine being tasted. The cuvée Gris Blanc Gérard Bertrand, a light rosé with a very pale pink colour, has an ideal serving temperature of between 10 and 12°C.

You should therefore think about leaving it in the fridge for a few hours, or in the freezer for a few tens of minutes if you are short on time!

Rosé wine can also be served with ice cubes, but be aware that adding ice cubes to your glass will dilute its properties, taste and flavours. But after all, it is simply a matter of taste and preference!

Rosé is not meant to be kept, so it is preferable to drink it quickly after purchase, and at most within two years of storage, in order to preserve all its flavours and aromas.

Finally, rosé does not need to be decanted or aerated either: you open it, you enjoy it!

Which dishes pair well with rosé wine?

Which dishes pair well with rosé wine

One of the advantages of rosé wine, and its main strength, is its ability to adapt easily to all types of dishes and accompaniments.

A glass of rosé can be enjoyed both during the aperitif and throughout a meal.

A direct result of its origins in the south of France, rosé wine pairs particularly well with Mediterranean cuisine, whether tapas, dishes based on fresh vegetables, fish and olive oil.

This is notably the case of the cuvée Hampton Water, a mineral and intense rosé wine, the fruit of a collaboration between artist Jon Bon Jovi, his son Jesse Bongiovi and winemaker/entrepreneur Gérard Bertrand.

Rosé also pairs very well with typical dishes such as ratatouille, bouillabaisse, tabbouleh, composed salads, carpaccios, and of course during a barbecue alongside grilled white or red meats, fish or shellfish.

Rosé wine can also be served with spiced dishes from world cuisine.

With cheese, it pairs wonderfully with fresh cheeses, goat's or sheep's cheeses, as well as soft-rind cheeses.

Finally, thanks to its roundness, its freshness and its minerality, rosé wine can accompany summer desserts such as fruit salads, ice creams & sorbets, fruit tarts, granitas and other iced smoothies!

The Languedoc, a region well suited to rosé wines

A historic region for vine growing, the Languedoc-Roussillon is a rich terroir bathed in sunshine, particularly well suited to rosé wines. Indeed, benefiting from a hot and dry summer climate, with mild winters and rainy springs, the Languedoc terroir is quintessentially a land of rosé.

With their years of experience in growing rosé wine grape varieties such as grenache, mourvèdre, syrah and cinsault, the wine growers of the Languedoc today produce premium rosé wines, whether through traditional, organic or biodynamic farming.

The rosé wines of the Languedoc-Roussillon represent four départements: the Aude, the Hérault, the Gard and the Pyrénées-Orientales.

The rosés produced by Gérard Bertrand are a very fine example of the quality offered by wines from the Languedoc. This son of a wine grower, deeply attached to the Occitan terroir and a true pioneer in the creation of premium wines from the south of France, today produces great rosé wines with a unique character.

Languedoc rosé wine: pleasure and character

Character of Languedoc rosé wine

Very popular in France, and increasingly so internationally, rosé is a wine for sharing and pleasure to be savoured during convivial moments, with friends or family.

Just as delicious on its own or accompanied, as an aperitif or during a meal, it pairs perfectly with summer dishes : barbecue, picnic, salads, vegetarian dishes and Mediterranean cuisine… rosé is the wine of choice for festive outdoor meals.

Among the multitude of rosé wines available today, the rosé wines of the Languedoc, increasingly high in quality, are a very pleasant surprise.

Indeed, these characterful wines with complex aromas and fruity flavours have nothing to envy today from Provence rosés.

This is notably the case of the surprising rosé wine Domaine de Villemajou, a high-quality AOP Corbières wine certified AB (organic farming) and Demeter (biodynamic farming).

Very well structured, delicate and subtle, the rosé wines of the Languedoc have gained, in recent years, in quality and elegance.

These wines thus surprise with their power and balance, proudly displaying their terroir and Mediterranean origins.

A quality rosé wine also offers a personality rooted in its terroir, whether that be the grape variety of its vines, the composition of the soil and the climate of its vineyard.

The best rosé wines also contribute to the pleasure of the eye. Each rosé wine's colour is unique, ranging from extremely pale pink to brilliant salmon pink.

Of course, the best rosé wines come from high-quality vines; the grape varieties are carefully selected and perfectly suited to their terroir.

Finally, the expertise of the vigneron and the oenologist makes all the difference in the production of a great rosé wine.
