The best wine in the world

What are the characteristics of the best wine in the world?

Best wine in the world

To produce the best wine in the world and receive the rewards of hours of work — that is what every winemaker aspires to achieve. Only a select few will succeed in standing out from the crowd and producing far more than a good wine, but truly the best wine in the world.

Every year, the counter is reset to zero. To award this title, several major internationally renowned competitions such as the International Wine Challenge, the Decanter World Wine Awards, Wine Spectator and Robert Parker take on this challenging task. The wine, by colour category, is observed from every angle, then smelled and finally tasted in order to reveal all its aromas. Only one wine per colour is selected, then comes the second tasting, where the best wine across all colours is chosen.

The best wine in the world at Gérard Bertrand

The best wines in the world

Every year at Gerard Bertrand, at least one wine stands out for its awards. Rosé wine, red wine, it is the full expression of the wines of the south that takes the stage internationally and in the palates of the finest oenologists.

We can notably cite L'Hospitalitas 2019, recognised as the best red wine in the world in 2021, drawn from the finest plots of Château l'Hospitalet, distinguished by its intense purple colour, its explosive nose with aromas of ripe fruit, conferring it an excellent ageing potential. But also, our second red wine, the celebrated Château l'Hospitalet Grand Vin Red 2017 – named best red wine in the world at the IWC in 2019, a true olfactory journey with its intense nose of spice and red fruit aromas.

Rosé wines are not to be outdone at Gerard Bertrand: in 2020, the 2019 vintage of Clos du Temple was named Best Rosé Wine in the World by the magazine The Drinks Business. Every great lover of rosé wine will know how to age this wine for keeping and enjoy it on the finest occasions. This exceptional rosé wine will delight your palate with its floral notes of rose and green pepper, as well as apricot and white peach.
