The Emblematic Grape Varieties of Languedoc Wine: A Journey to the Heart of Red Wines

Grenache Noir: The Mediterranean Softness

Merlot: Roundness and Suppleness

Merlot rounds off the picture of red grape varieties in Languedoc wines with its roundness and suppleness. This grape variety, widely cultivated around the world, adapts particularly well to the Mediterranean climate of the Languedoc, where it develops rich aromas of red and black fruits, such as prune, blackberry, and sometimes notes of chocolate and vanilla when aged in oak barrels. The Merlot contributes to the softness of the tannins and the generosity of the fine Languedoc red wine, making them approachable from a young age whilst also offering good ageing potential.
